 Completely unspoilt with long golden beaches, Costa Almeria is as varied as any of the Spanish Coasts. It is therefore possible to find modern and bustling tourist centres as well as those natural areas where man has scarcely left his mark. Although plenty of exploration through quaint villages and nature reserves can be undertaken, there are a few full-service, ‘sit back and do nothing’ resorts around. In fact, the tourist resorts of Roquetas de Mar and Aqua Dulce are a package holiday haven. If you wish to escape the beach, explore Cabo de Gata Nijar, a national park with spectacular caves or marvel at the El Tajo gorg. Almost the entire coast between Mojacar and Almeria is covered by the Cabo de Gata National Park - an extensive area of sand dunes, wetlands and salt marshes serving as a breeding ground for some eighty species of birds and migrants, including flamingos and storks.
