-Rethymon beach on Crete The island of Crete is equipped with more tourist facilities than any other Greek island, which is fair enough because it is the largest. The reason why thousands of foreigners visit Crete each year, is not so much for the traditional Greek island experience, as for investigating the remains of the archaic Minoan culture that flourished here thousands of years before Christ but for the great beaches and sunshine hours the island offers. Some parts of the island have been overpowered by tourist resorts and massive hotels, but fortunately Crete does still allow for exploring endless beaches, numerous villages, remote mountains and some natural curiosities like caves and gorges for those who take pains to avoid the 'madding crowds'. Crete has two main airports, Chania and Heraklion but the latter has more flights form the UK and services the resorts on the north of the island. Please note: When using the search box below Heraklion is the main airport with most flights from the UK and Chania has less and serves fewer resorts.

Flight time from UK: Between 4 & 4.5 hours

Currency: The Euro (EUR) is the official currency, divided into 100 cents. Banks and bureaux de change are widely available and travellers cheques and major credit cards are widely accepted. ATMs are widespread and are generally the cheapest and most convenient method of obtaining euros.

Time: Local time is GMT +2 (GMT +3 between the last Sunday in April and the last Sunday in October).

Language: Greek is the national language, but English is widely spoken.

Electricity: Electrical current is 220 volts, 50Hz. A variety of plugs are in use including the European-style two-pin and the round three-pin.

There are four levels of inclusions that cover the food and drink element of the accommodation package. These are Light - Standard/Bronze - Classic/Silver and Gold/Premier. The standard programme will include three meals a day, national spirits, beer, wine, and other non-alcoholic beverages.
